The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a 5-year Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) grant to BME Assistant Professor Dr Michael Daniele for his research in “Reconfigurable Microfluidic-Microbalance Sensors to Monitor and Optimize the Performance of Microphysiological Models.” This project aims to investigate and engineer a new generation of reconfigurable biosensor platforms that can be used to measure multiple circulating biomarkers and inform the development and analysis of microphysiological models. Because microphysiological models replicate human organ function, they are promising technologies for fundamental biological research and discovery of translatable biomarkers, pharmaceuticals, and regenerative therapies. NSF’s CAREER Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation’s most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.
