Dr. Zhen Gu and his team of researchers at NC State and UNC-Chapel Hill have developed a drug delivery technique using liquid-metal nanomedicine to safely target and ultimately eliminate cancerous cells. These injectible non-toxic “nano-terminators” are expected to increase efficacy of cancer drugs.  Details of this work and the efforts of Dr. Gu’s research team can be found in NC State News.

The Gu research team results are presented in a paper titled “Transformable Liquid-Metal Nanomedicine,” published online on December 2, 2015 in Nature Communications. The research has already been featured in several major news reports, including Popular ScienceScience Daily, and Independent. Lead author on the paper is Yue Le, a PhD student in Gu’s lab. Co-authors include Quanyin Hu, Yiliang Lin, Dennis Pacardo, Chao Wang, Wujin Sun, Fran Ligler, and Zhen Gu (corresponding author) of the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at NC State and UNC- Chapel Hill; and Michael Dickey of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at NC State.
