BME core faculty member Elizabeth Loboa’s newly supported project aims to develop a novel antimicrobial bandage to promote wound healing. The award comes from a North Carolina Biotechnology Center (NCBC) Collaborative Funding Grant (CFG), which are designed to support a university-company partnership that advances the company’s technology toward the marketplace. Dr. Loboa’s collaboration with Dow Chemical Company and NCSU-based Leaders in Innovation and Nonwoven Commercialization, LLC (LINC) seek to commercialize Dow’s Silvadur ET technology into antimicrobial nanofiber based bandages optimized to heal wounds.

The North Carolina Biotechnology Center makes annual awards in 14 programs. In 2013 awards went to successful applicants across the state to support life science entrepreneurship, technology commercialization, and education. In just this past year NCBC provided 151 awards worth more than $10.7 million. See more at http://www.ncbiotech.org/article/ncbiotech-awards-358m-quarter/4429#sthash.Uejk72aX.dpuf
