Joni Hope Julian

graduate student in Biomedical Engineering

For the curious: I am a native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1988, and then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a Rotary Club scholarship. While I was here as an undergraduate, I worked in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. I received my Bachelor of Science in Physics in May 1991, having successfully avoided summer school during my three years. Next I went to Penn State and got a teaching award in December 1992, and my Master of Science in Physics in August 1993. My Master's thesis is "An Introduction to Scanning Tunneling Microscopes." I fled the frozen north and returned to Chapel Hill where I worked (as a high school teacher and a computer consultant) for a year while selecting a new field of study. I wanted to mix the theory of physics with the practical, tangible world. So here I am in Biomedical Engineering! My research project is video teleconferencing for Telemedicine, and my academic specialty is medical imaging. I also do some computer support for the campus. In my so-called "free time," I enjoy running, running after frisbees, working on my car, and the like.

If you don't mind braving my opinions, there's more about me.
