Remote Control on your Mac

  • CP290 Director is Mac shareware for the CP290, the X10 controlling unit (also available from Info-Mac).

  • Hill Country Softworks has the freeware cronX10 at Info-Mac for CP290-X10 control. It requires cron at Info-Mac or at UMich (not the same as this cron).

  • Home Automation Systems has X10 and similar products.

  • MouseHouse also provides CP290 control.

  • Serac Software offers shareware X 10 Home Automation Scripting Addition for Apple Scripting, can also download from Info-Mac. They also have Apple Script additions for serial ports.

  • Timbuktu from Netopia (formerly Farallon) offers T.120 application sharing (a frequent companion to H.323) and remote control and administration of your Mac.

  • VNC, Virtual Network Computing from AT&T Labs Cambridge (UK) allows a Mac client to control remotely the server machine (not Mac, sorry). It's neater than this sounds! Remember that Windows does not allow administration without console access, unlike Macs and Unixes that can run headless (no monitor or keyboard or mouse) and still function well.

  • Xtension can also control a CP290 for X10.
