BME faculty Dr. Zhen Gu has recently been awarded a 2016 Sloan Research Fellowship, an award that honors early-career scientists and scholars whose achievements and potential identify them as rising stars and the next generation of scientific leaders. Awarded annually since 1955, the Sloan Fellowship provides funding to further the research and contributions made by its recipients. Zhen’s research into the treatment of cancer and diabetes using targeted delivery systems has been a great success, having engineered a “smart patch” for diabetic insulin delivery and cancer nanoterminators that seek out and destroy cancerous cells. His next-generation work has been featured by scientific and popular publications alike, including Nature Communications, Science Magazine, Popular Science, and Fox News. He certainly has made waves in the biomedical community and this Fellowship illustrates his potential to continue doing so. BME would like to congratulate Zhen on this prestigious award!
