Congratulations to our Dr. Fran Ligler, Lampe Distinguished Professor, who has been elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI)! The NAI is a non-profit organization that recognizes, supports, and enhances inventors and their academic and non-profit work. The NAI Fellowship is an elected position for inventors with innovative patents or licenses that have (or will have) a significant impact on society. Per the NAI Fellows vision, Dr. Ligler has demonstrated a highly prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development, and the welfare of society. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering with over 350 publications and patents, from which 11 commercial biosensor products have become available. Dr. Ligler has also been recently honored with the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) Technology Transfer Award, three NRL Edison Awards for Patent of the Year, and the national Women in Science and Engineering Outstanding Achievement in Science Award – all for her incredible achievements in biomedical engineering.

The induction ceremony for NAI Fellows will take place in Spring 2017, as part of the Sixth Annual Conference of the National Academy of Inventors.
