Adriano Bellotti, former NC State-based BME undergraduate and current UNC graduate student, has been named as a 2017 Gates Cambridge Scholar. This prestigious program provides full support to the top non-UK students who wish to undertake graduate study at the University of Cambridge. A core tenet of the Gates Scholarship is having a keen interest in social leadership and responsibility, and Adriano is no exception: while at Cambridge, he plans to study neurophysiology through computational modeling. “It is wonderful to see Adriano selected for this outstanding award that will help him advance his studies in the development and application of mathematical models to create new biomedical engineering solutions leading to breakthrough clinical treatments and technologies,” said UNC Chancellor Carol L. Folt. “I am very excited for Adriano and know his studies at Cambridge will provide an excellent opportunity for him to continue his studies.” Similarly, NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson praised the achievement, saying: “Adriano truly embodies NC State’s ‘Think and Do’ spirit. He took full advantage of his time at NC State to conduct research in biomedicine, computer science, and microbiology with the goal of becoming a transformative leader and innovative physician-scientist.” You can read more at UNC News and at NC State News.

Congratulations, Adriano. We feel certain we’ll be hearing your name again soon!
