UNC-CH / NC State
Joint Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program
PREPARATORY COURSES
Students entering from disciplines other than engineering may find it necessary to take preparatory undergraduate and/or graduate level courses that serve as prerequisites. Students in the graduate program should have the following preparation:
Undergraduate biology
Calculus through differential equations
Probability and statistics
In addition, certain research disciplines in BME may require some of the following preparatory courses:
Organic chemistry
Genetics
Biochemistry
Linear systems and Fourier analysis
High-level computer programming (C, C++, Java, etc.)
Electronics (Analog and/or digital)
Mechanics (Solid and/or fluid)
Students should work with their academic advisors to determine which preparatory courses, if any, are appropriate. Note that preparatory courses that are for undergraduate credit only may not be applied toward credit hours required for a graduate degree.
