UNC-CH / NC State
Joint Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program
ADMISSIONS
Applications must be received by January 15 in order to be considered for Fall admission. Only in unusual circumstances and after written consultation with the director of graduate programs/studies is admission for other semesters considered.
Admissions decisions are made by a committee comprised of faculty and staff of the Joint Program. All admitted students have a "home" institution that is the university through which they applied or at which their research advisor is based. However all students have access to resources at both universities including faculty, classes, research laboratories, and extracurricular activities at the two universities.
An application to the Joint Program requires a personal statement, GRE scores, three letters of recommendation, and original transcripts . The MCAT may be substituted for the GRE. TOEFL scores are required of applicants for whom English is not the first language.
The program has the general expectation that applicants will score at or better than the 50th percentile in the verbal, quantitative, and analytical aspects of the GRE. Admitted applicants have averaged 60th, 80th and 70th percentiles in verbal, quantitative, and analytical, respectively. The average GPA of applicants for Fall 2006 who were offered admission was 3.51 on a 4.0 scale.
Admission applications must be submitted electronically at either
NC State on-line admission
or
UNC-CH on-line admission
Do not apply at both institutions. All applications are considered together without regard to the institution receiving the application. Paper recommendations and any other nonelectronic correspondence should be sent directly to the address shown below.
